Chennai, March 12-The Central Government has made four major changes in the passport application rules. The details are as follows:
Birth Certificate
For those born after October 1, 2023, only the birth certificate issued by the Municipal Registrar of Births and Deaths or an officer under the Births and Deaths Registration Act will be accepted as proof.
Those born before that, other documents including PAN card, driving license, school transfer certificate, matriculation certificate can continue to be used.
Address
So far, the address printed on the last page of the passport will no longer be printed for the security of the passport holder. Instead, only the citizenship authorities. It will be printed in the form of a ‘barcode’ so that it can be ‘scanned’.
Color Identification
To make it easy to identify the types of passport, it will now be issued to citizens in blue as usual. White passports for government officials and red passports for diplomatic officials are to be introduced.
Parental Name
The parental name, which was previously printed on the last page of the passport, will no longer be printed.
This means that this system will be adopted to protect the privacy of children of single parents and separated parents.
There are currently 422 Passport Seva Kendras in the country. The central government is planning to increase them to 600 in the next five years.
For this, the MoU signed by the Ministry of External Affairs with the Department of Posts has been extended for another five years.
